The “PlayStation Phone” will be a huge seller, but it shouldn’t be one!

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, otherwise known as the PlayStation Phone, should be released later this year (hopefully by summer). The iconic gaming franchise will make its way onto the Android operating system with a huge fan base ready to buy their product, but are the fans and consumers being scammed? This summer we will see an arsenal of new-generation superphones that will have dual-core processors and larger amounts of RAM, however, this “revolutionary” device will only have a single-core processor and 512 MB of RAM (as opposed to the 1 GB that will be found in the  summer superphones). This means that by summer, OTHER phones will be released with MUCH higher gaming capabilities than the Xperia Play.

How will the “PlayStation Phone” do in the US?

A supposed “PlayStation Phone” was first rumored back in August of 2010. The idea of a portable gaming device with built in smartphone capabilities was quite exciting. A few months later, leaked images of the elusive phone appeared on the Internet. Fast forward to February 2011 and the mythical device was finally announced by Sony Ericsson, but under a totally different name than we had expected. The first ever “PlayStation Phone” was going to be known as the Xperia Play. It’s been about 3 months since the phone was made official and we’re still waiting on a release date. With the powerful PlayStation brand behind it, the Xperia Play should be quite popular, but who will ultimately buy it? Will it cater solely to hardcore gamers? Geeky smartphone power users?
